Vavuniya is a large town in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province and also the primary town of the district of Vavuniya. One of the most significant landmarks of the town can be said to be the Archaeological Museum which comprises Buddhist and terracotta figures that date back to as earlier as 4th or 8th century. It also houses Madukanda Vihara which holds special significance for Buddhists. There is a wonderful Ganesha temple known as Sothida Niliyam Kovil from where one can get a picturesque view of a small lake. There is also a mosque known as Grand Jummah Mosque that boasts of impressive architecture.
